Comoco to Exhibit at MD&M West

Advanced Lathe for processing stents and dental implants

Burbank, CA – Comco Inc. industry leader in the manufacture of micro-abrasive blasters, will exhibit the Advanced Lathe LA3250 at the MD&M West trade show, February 9-11, 2010, at booth #2182.

Micro-abrasive blasting can be used to texture dental implants. Roughening the threaded area of the dental implant increases the surface area for the tissue to take root, improving the bond.  Equally critical however, is maintaining a smooth surface on the apex of the implant to prevent bacteria growth.  Microblasting provides the precision necessary to roughen the threads without damaging the finish on the apex.

This technology is also used to treat the surfaces of laser cut Nitinol stents.  Dross and laser slag must be removed to create a uniform finish for better electropolishing results.  Microblasting effectively removes these residues as well as removes microcracks.

The Advanced Lathe LA3250 provides the ideal platform for both R&D and production of these medical devices.  Using up to four axes of motion and unique tooling, the LA3250 is able to process a wide range of parts.  It provides the accuracy, reliability and throughput required by today’s medical manufacturing environment.

Comco offers sample part testing to determine the most efficient microblasting method for any application.  Our engineers have the expertise and complete test facilities to determine if a micro-abrasive blasting process can be used to improve production efficiency and product quality.
